Scope note: Una importante proteína transmembrana integral de la MEMBRANA ERITROCÍTICA. Es el intercambiador aniónico responsable del transporte electroneutro de iones cloruro (CLORUROS) en intercambio con iones bicarbonato (BICARBONATOS), permitiendo la captación y transporte de CO2 por los hematíes desde los tejidos a los pulmones. Las mutaciones genéticas que dan lugar a pérdida de la función de la proteína se asocian a ESFEROCITOSIS HEREDITARIA tipo 4.
