Scope note: Operación para el vaciado continuo del líquido ascítico hacia el sistema venoso. La eliminación del líquido se basa en las diferencias de presión entre la vena cava superior intraperitoneal y la intratorácica y se realiza mediante una válvula monodireccional sensible a la presión, conectada a un tubo que atraviesa el tejido subcutáneo de la pared del tórax hasta el cuello, en donde se introduce en la vena yugular interna y termina en la vena cava superior. Se emplea en el tratamiento de la ascitis rebelde.

Scope note: An operation for the continuous emptying of ascitic fluid into the venous system. Fluid removal is based on intraperitoneal and intrathoracic superior vena cava pressure differentials and is performed via a pressure-sensitive one-way valve connected to a tube traversing the subcutaneous tissue of the chest wall to the neck where it enters the internal jugular vein and terminates in the superior vena cava. It is used in the treatment of intractable ascites.
