Scope note: Sedante y anticonvulsionante utilizado frecuentemente en el tratamiento de la deshabituación alcohólica. El clormetiazol también está indicado como agente neuroprotector. El mecanismo de su acción terapéutica todavía no está totalmente aclarado, aunque se sabe que potencia la respuesta de los receptores del ÁCIDO GAMMA-AMINOBUTÍRICO y que también puede afectar a los receptores de glicina.

Scope note: A sedative and anticonvulsant often used in the treatment of alcohol withdrawal. Chlormethiazole has also been proposed as a neuroprotective agent. The mechanism of its therapeutic activity is not entirely clear, but it does potentiate GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACID receptors response and it may also affect glycine receptors.
