Scope note: Enfermedad muy contagiosa caracterizada por hemorragia subconjuntival, inflamación súbita de los párpados y congestión, enrojecimiento y dolor del ojo. La conjuntivitis epidémica producida por Enterovirus 70 (EV-70) fue descrita por vez primera en África en 1969. Está causada también por una variante de Coxsackievirus A24 (CA24v). Las epidemias por este microorganismo han aparecido con más frecuencia en Asia.
