Scope note: Especie tipo del género ORTHOHEPADNAVIRUS que produce la hepatitis B en el hombre y aparentemente también es un agente causal del carcinoma hepatocelular. La partícula Dane es un virión intacto de la hepatitis, y se denomina así en honor a su descubridor. En el suero existen también partículas tubulares y esféricas no infecciosas.
