Scope note: Infecciones con especies del género PNEUMOCYSTIS, hongo que produce la neumonía intersticial de células plasmáticas (NEUMONIA POR PNEUMOCYSTIS) y otras infecciones en humanos y otros MAMÍFEROS. Los pacientes inmunodeprimidos, especialmente los que sufren SIDA, son particularmente sensibles a estas infecciones. La afectación extrapulmonar es rara, aunque se observa en ocasiones.

Scope note: Infections with species in the genus PNEUMOCYSTIS, a fungus causing interstitial plasma cell pneumonia (PNEUMONIA, PNEUMOCYSTIS) and other infections in humans and other MAMMALS. Immunocompromised patients, especially those with AIDS, are particularly susceptible to these infections. Extrapulmonary sites are rare but seen occasionally.
