Scope note: Micotoxina producida por el grupo de hongos Aspergillus flavus, que es un potente hepatotóxico y hepatocarcinógeno. Además, es mutágeno, teratógeno y causa inmunosupresion en animales. Puede encontrarse como contaminante en cacahuetes, forrajes de semilla de algodón, maíz, y otros granos. Esta micotoxina, para activarse, requiere oxidarse a aflatoxina B1 2,3-óxido. Las monooxigenasas microsomales biotransforman dicha toxina hasta los metabolitos aflatoxina M1 y Q1, de menor toxicidad.
