A menudo consiste de una capa exterior (epidérmica) de silicona y una capa interna (dérmica) de colágeno y condroitín-6-sulfato. La capa dérmica sufre nuevo crecimiento e invasión vascular y la capa exterior se elimina posteriormente y se reemplaza por un injerto.
