Scope note: Trucha grande y robusta, algunas veces anádroma, que se encuentra en aguas tranquilas y corrientes de la costa Pacífica de América del Norte, desde el Sur de California hasta Alaska. Tiene la región dorsal de color verdoso, el vientre blanquecino con estrías rosadas, color violeta o rojas en los lados, generalmente moteadas con manchas negras. Son muy apreciadas para el deporte y como fuente de alimentos. Previamente se denominaba Salmo gairdneri. Las truchas arcoiris de mar se conocen a menudo como "cabezas de acero". Las truchas "redband" (banda roja) son poblaciones de interior de truchas arcoiris.

Scope note: A large stout-bodied, sometimes anadromous, TROUT found in still and flowing waters of the Pacific coast from southern California to Alaska. It has a greenish back, a whitish belly, and pink, red, or lavender stripes on the sides, with usually a sprinkling of black dots. It is highly regarded as a sport and food fish. Its former name was Salmo gairdneri. The sea-run rainbow trouts are often called steelheads. Redband trouts refer to interior populations of rainbows.
