Scope note: Dinoflagelado con un ciclo de vida que comprende numerosas etapas flageladas, ameboides y enquistadas. Tanto las formas flageladas como ameboides producen toxinas que generan heridas abiertas en peces. La Pfiesteria piscicida se alimenta del tejido que se desprende de estas heridas, así como de bacterias y algas. En Estados Unidos se encuentra en los estuarios del Atlántico.

Scope note: A dinoflagellate with a life cycle that includes numerous flagellated, amoeboid, and encysted stages.
