Scope note: Células no hematopoyéticas que presentan abundantes prolongaciones dendríticas y que se encuentran en los folículos primarios y secundarios del tejido linfoide (áreas de células B). Son distintas de las CÉLULAS DENDRÍTICAS asociadas con las CÉLULAS T. Las células dendríticas foliculares derivan de CÉLULAS MADRE MESENQUIMATOSAS y son negativas para los antígenos MHC II y no procesan ni presentan los antígenos como las células dendríticas convencionales. En lugar de ello, tienen RECEPTORES FC y RECEPTORES C3b, que unen el antígeno en forma de COMPLEJOS DE ANTÍGENO-ANTICUERPO que permanecen en la superficie celular durante largos periodos para el reconocimiento por las CÉLULAS B.

Scope note: Non-hematopoietic cells, with extensive dendritic processes, found in the primary and secondary follicles of lymphoid tissue (the B cell zones). They are different from conventional DENDRITIC CELLS associated with T-CELLS. They are derived from MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS and are negative for class II MHC antigen and do not process or present antigen like the conventional dendritic cells do. Instead, follicular dendritic cells have FC RECEPTORS and C3B RECEPTORS that hold antigen in the form of ANTIGEN-ANTIBODY COMPLEXES on their surfaces for long periods for recognition by B-CELLS.
