Scope note: Red amplia y compleja de capilares, vasos delgados, válvulas, conductos, ganglios y órganos que ayuda a proteger y a mantener el medio líquido interno, produciendo, filtrando y conduciendo la linfa y produciendo distintas células sanguíneas. También transporta grasas, proteínas y otras sustancias sanguíneas, y recupera el 60 por ciento del líquido que se filtra desde los capilares sanguíneos hacia el espacio intersticial. Las válvulas que existen en la red linfática ayudan a controlar el flujo de la linfa y, al unirse con el sistema venoso, evitan que la sangre fluya hacia los vasos linfáticos. El sistema también posee órganos linfáticos especializados, como las amígdalas, el timo o el bazo. La linfa fluye hacia la circulación general a través del conducto torácico.
