Scope note: Flujo de fragmentos volcánicos sólidos de alta densidad, suspendidos en gas, que fluyen montaña abajo desde una chimenea volcánica (a velocidades de hasta 200 km por h.) que también puede desarrollarse a partir del derrumbamiento parcial de un cono de erupción vertical. Se subdivide, de acuerdo con la composición de los fragmentos y la naturaleza del flujo, en: flujo de cenizas, corriente incandescente, nube ardiente y flujo de piedra pómez.
