Scope note: Familia de plantas del orden Sapindales, subclase Rosidae, clase Magnoliopsida, que poseen hojas opuestas y generalmente dentadas o lobuladas. El fruto, una samara (pequeña nuez alada) se escinde en dos mitades aladas (raramente en tres), cada una de las cuales contiene una semilla. Esta familia se halla ampliamente distribuida en el hemisferio norte.
