Scope note: Síndrome caracterizado por DOLOR retrorrotuliano o perirrotuliano a consecuencia de cambios físicos y bioquímicos en la articulación fémoropatelar. El dolor es más intenso al subir o bajar escaleras, en cuclillas o al sentarse con las rodillas flexionadas. No hay consenso sobre su etiología y tratamiento. El síndrome se confunde a menudo (o se acompaña) con la CONDROMALACIA ROTULIANA, que es una afección patológica del CARTÍLAGO y no un síndrome.

The pain is most prominent when ascending or descending stairs, squatting, or sitting with flexed knees. There is a lack of consensus on the etiology and treatment. The syndrome is often confused with (or accompanied by) CHONDROMALACIA PATELLAE, the latter describing a pathological condition of the CARTILAGE and not a syndrome.
