Scope note: Trastorno orgánico mental agudo inducido por el cese o reducción en el consumo crónico de alcohol. Las características clínicas comprenden CONFUSIÓN, DELIRIOS o ideas delirantes, ALUCINACIONES vívidas, TEMBLOR, agitación, insomnio y signos de hiperactividad neurovegetativa (p.ej., aumento de la presión arterial y de la frecuencia cardíaca, dilatación pupilar, y diaforesis). Esta afección puede en ocasiones ser mortal. Antiguamente recibió la denominación de delirium tremens. (Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p1175)

Clinical characteristics include CONFUSION; DELUSIONS; vivid HALLUCINATIONS; TREMOR; agitation; insomnia; and signs of autonomic hyperactivity (e.g., elevated blood pressure and heart rate, dilated pupils, and diaphoresis).
