Scope note: Tejido de las plantas que transporta el agua desde la raíz a través del tallo hasta otras partes de la planta. Las paredes celulares del xilema deben la mayoría de su dureza a la LIGNINA. Los vasos son similares a los tubos cribosos del FLOEMA pero carecen de células acompañantes y no tienen caras perforadas ni poros.
