Scope note: Brote de carbunco que se produjo en 1979 que se asoció con un centro de investigación en Sverdlovsk, en la región de los Montes Urales, RUSIA central. La mayoría de las víctimas trabajaban o vivían en una estrecha zona que se extendía a partir del centro de investigación. La zona de mortalidad de ganado causada por el carbunco corrió en paralelo con el viento del norte que prevalecía poco antes del brote. Se llegó a la conclusión de que el brote fue causado por un escape de BACILLUS ANTHRACIS .
