Scope note: Infecciones por nematodos de la superfamilia FILARIOIDEA. La presencia de los helmintos vivos en el cuerpo es prácticamente asintomática, pero la muerte de los helmintos adultos produce inflamación granulomatosa y fibrosis permanente. Los organismos del género Elaeophora infectan a los alces salvajes y ovejas domésticas, produciendo necrosis isquémica en el cerebro, ceguera y dermatosis de la cara.
