La región pseudoautosómica 1 (PAR1) está localizada en el extremo de los brazos cortos 'p' (Xp22 e Yp11), en tanto que la región pseudoautosómica 2 (PAR2) se encuentra en el extremo de los brazos largos 'q' (Xq28 e Yq12).
