Scope note: La más larga de todas las serpientes venenosas y, a su vez, el elápido más largo. No se trata de un miembro del género Naja, aunque su cabeza recuerda a la de las especies Naja. Su mordedura puede inocular grandes cantidades de veneno neurotóxico y cardiotóxico, compuesto principalmente por NEUROTOXINAS alfa. Las cobras reales son autóctonas de los bosques de la India y del Sudeste Asiático.
