Las especies VIRUS DE LA GASTROENTERITIS TRANSMISIBLE, CORONAVIRUS RESPIRATORIO PORCINO, CORONAVIRUS CANINO y CORONAVIRUS FELINO, consideradas distintas previamente, se han fusionado en esta especie debido a que presentan una secuencia de nucleótidos en el genoma y una organización genómica similares.
