Lamellar bodies in the skin produce and secrete neutral lipids to provide hydrophobic barrier. Pathological accumulation of lamellar bodies are also known in lipid storage diseases (e.g.,LCAT DEFICIENCY; and HERMANSKY-PUDLAK SYNDROME). |
