Scope note: Una de las isoenzimas más abundantes de la familia de las glutatión-peroxidasas. Ubicada en el citosol y en las mitocondrias, cataliza la reducción del PERÓXIDO DE HIDRÓGENO a agua, de modo que limita la acumulación de peróxido de hidrógeno y modula los procesos que utilizan el peróxido de hidrógeno; también participa en la reducción de otros hidroperóxidos orgánicos a sus correspondientes alcoholes.
