Scope note: Especie de víbora de fosetas venenosa del género BOTHROPS. Bothrops atrox se encuentra en las tierras bajas tropicales del norte de América del Sur, al este de los Andes y Trinidad, donde recibe el nombre de mapepire balsain. B. atrox es más comúnmente conocida como cabeza de lanza común y fer-de-lance. La BATROXOBINA generalmente se aísla a partir del veneno de B. atrox.
