Scope note: Alcaloide aislado de las semillas de PEGANUM HARMALA y ZYGOPHYLLACEAE. Es idéntico a la banisterina o telepatina, de Banisteria caapi, y es uno de los ingredientes activos de bebidas alucinogénicas hechas en la región occidental del Amazonas a partir de plantas relacionadas. No tiene uso terapéutico, pero (como la banisterina) en los años 20 fue considerado útil para curar la ENFERMEDAD DE PARKINSON postencefalítica.
