Scope note: Forma de DIÓXIDO DE SILICIO formada por los esqueletos de plantas acuáticas prehistóricas que se utiliza por su capacidad de ABSORCIÓN, que alcanza hasta 1,5-4 veces su peso de agua. Los bordes afilados microscópicos son útiles para el control de los insectos pero también son un riesgo de inhalación. Se ha utilizado en alimentos horneados y en alimentos para animales. Kieselguhr es el nombre alemán que alude a piedra y sedimento terroso.
