Scope note: País de África occidental, situado al este de MAURITANIA y al sur de ARGELIA. Su capital es Bamako. Entre 1904 y 1920 se conocía bajo la denominación de Níger-Senegal Superior; con anterioridad a 1958 se denominó Sudán Francés; entre 1958 y 1960 como República Sudanesa; y entre 1959 y 1960 formó parte de la Federación de Mali junto con Senegal. En el año 1960 se proclamó República Independiente.
