Note d'application: Proteína de unión a poli(A) implicada en la promoción de la extensión de las colas de poli A del ARNM. La proteína requiere un mínimo de diez nucleótidos de ADENOSINA para unirse al ARNm. Una vez unida trabaja junto con un FACTOR DE ESPECIFICIDAD DE LA ESCISIÓN Y POLIADENILACIÓN para estimular la velocidad de síntesis por la POLI A POLIMERASA. Una vez que las colas de poli-A alcanzan aproximadamente 250 nucleótidos de longitud, la proteína II de unión poli(A) ya no estimula la POLIADENILACIÓN. Se ha demostrado que las mutaciones en el interior de una región con una repetición GCG en el gen para la proteína II de unión poli(A) causan la enfermedad de DISTROFIA MUSCULAR OCULOFARÍNGEA.

Note d'application: A poly(A) binding protein that is involved in promoting the extension of the poly A tails of MRNA. The protein requires a minimum of ten ADENOSINE nucleotides in order for binding to mRNA. Once bound it works in conjunction with CLEAVAGE AND POLYADENYLATION SPECIFICITY FACTOR to stimulate the rate of poly A synthesis by POLY A POLYMERASE. Once poly-A tails reach around 250 nucleotides in length poly(A) binding protein II no longer stimulates POLYADENYLATION. Mutations within a GCG repeat region in the gene for poly(A) binding protein II have been shown to cause the disease MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY, OCULOPHARYNGEAL.
