Su capital es Charlottetown. Descubierta por los franceses en 1534 y originalmente denominada Isla de San Juan, en 1799 cambió de nombre en honor del Príncipe Eduardo, el cuarto hijo de Jorge III y futuro padre de la Reina Victoria.
