Scope note: Grupo de patógenos que comprende los más pequeños agentes conocidos que causan enfermedades infecciosas. No son capsulados y pueden replicarse autónomamente en células susceptibles. Los viroides positivamente identificados están compuestos de ARN de una sola hebra y han sido aislados de plantas superiores, aunque se sospecha que existen viroides de ADN patógenos de animales.
