Scope note: Enfermedad del MIOCARDIO producida por el consumo crónico y excesivo de alcohol. El daño miocárdico puede estar causado por: (1) efecto tóxico del alcohol, (2) malnutrición en alcohólicos tales como DEFICIENCIA DE TIAMINA, o (3) efecto tóxico de los aditivos de las bebidas alcohólicas como el COBALTO. Esta enfermedad suele manifestarse por DISNEA y palpitaciones con CARDIOMEGALIA e insuficiencia cardiaca congestiva (INSUFICIENCIA CARDÍACA).

Myocardial damage can be caused by: (1) a toxic effect of alcohol; (2) malnutrition in alcoholics such as THIAMINE DEFICIENCY; or (3) toxic effect of additives in alcoholic beverages such as COBALT. This disease is usually manifested by DYSPNEA and palpitations with CARDIOMEGALY and congestive heart failure (HEART FAILURE).
