Es el complejo oxidasa terminal de la CADENA RESPIRATORIA y recoge electrones que son transferidos desde el GRUPO DEL CITOCROMO C reducido, que los cede al OXÍGENO molecular, que es reducido entonces dando lugar a agua. La reacción redox se asocia de manera simultánea al transporte de PROTONES a través de la membrana mitocondrial interna.
