Scope note: Pérdida de vapor de agua por las plantas hacia la atmósfera. Ocurre principalmente desde las hojas a través de los poros (estomas), cuya función principal es el intercambio de gases. El agua es reemplazada por una columna de agua continua que se mueve hacia arriba desde las raíces por dentro de los vasos del xilema. (Concise Dictionary of Biology, 1990)
