Scope note: La Red Iberoamericana e Interamericana sobre Indicadores de Ciencia y Tecnología (RICYT), se creó, con la participación de todos los países americanos, España y Portugal, en virtud de una propuesta del Primer Taller Iberoamericano sobre Indicadores de Ciencia y Tecnología celebrado en Argentina en 1994. La RICYT fue adoptada por el Programa CYTED como una red Iberoamericana y por la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) como una red Interamericana. Comenzó a funcionar efectivamente en abril de 1995. En el momento actual su principal soporte financiero es la Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos (OEI), a través del Observatorio para Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad, del Centro para Estudios de Educación Superior (OEI/CAEU). Asimismo, cuenta con el soporte financiero de la Agencia Española para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Internacional (AECID). La RICYT actúa como observador en el Grupo NESTI de la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económico (OCDE). Además, la RICYT trabaja conjuntamente con el Instituto de Estadística de la UNESCO, el Banco de Desarrollo Iberoamericano (BDIA), la Comisión Económica para Latinoamérica y el Caribe (ECLAC), y el Secretariado Ejecutivo del Convenio Andrés Bello (SECAB), el Consejo del Caribe para Ciencia y Tecnología (CCST), y la Comisión de América Central y Panamá para el Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico. RICYT was adopted by the CYTED Program as an Ibero-American network and by the Organization of American States (OAS) as an Inter-American network. Its beginning became effective in April 1995. At this moment, the main support of the network is the Ibero-American States Organization (OEI), through the Science, Technology and Society Observatory of the Center for Higher Education Studies (OEI/CAEU). It also counts with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). RICYT takes part as observer in the NESTI Group, of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In addition, RICYT works jointly with the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the Interamerican Debelopment Bank (IADB), the Economic Comission for Latin-America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Executive Secretariat of Convenio Andrés Bello (SECAB), the Caribbean Council for Science and Technology (CCST) and the Commission for Scientific and Technological Development of Central America and Panama (CTCAP).
