Scope note: Polipéptido hormonal del timo presente en la fracción 5 de la timosina (un extracto tímico crudo) pero producido actualmente mediante síntesis. Se usa sola o junto con interferón como inmunomodulador para el tratamiento de la HEPATITIS B CRÓNICA y de la HEPATITIS C. La timalfasina también se usa para el tratamiento de la inmunosupresión inducida por la quimioterapia y para potenciar la eficacia de las vacunas de la gripe y de la hepatitis B en pacientes inmunodeprimidos.

Scope note: A thymus hormone polypeptide found in thymosin fraction 5 (a crude thymus gland extract) but now produced by synthesis. It is used alone or with interferon as an immunomodulator for the treatment of CHRONIC HEPATITIS B and HEPATITIS C. Thymalfasin is also used for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression, and to enhance the efficacy of influenza and hepatitis B vaccines in immunocompromised patients.
