Scope note: Infección de duración prolongada con presentación continua de características clínicas. La infección persistente surge debido a la incapacidad de las células huésped para eliminar por completo las infecciones primarias. Cuando las infecciones persistentes se resuelven de manera que los síntomas de la infección están controlados, a menudo reciben el nombre de infecciones crónicas. Una INFECCIÓN LATENTE es aquella en la que la manifestación de síntomas clínicos se produce más tarde.
