Scope note: Género de la familia HYLOBATIDAE que consta de nueve especies. Los miembros de este género viven en bosques lluviosos del sudeste asiático. Son arbóreos y difieren de otros antropoides por la gran longitud de sus brazos y porque su cuerpo y extremidades inferiores son muy esbeltos. Su principal medio de locomoción es balanceándose de rama en rama con los brazos. Hylobates significa morador de los árboles.
