The Australian Practice of Traditional Medicine (PTM) is guided by a holistic worldview whose worldview recognizes good health as a complex system involving interconnection with the land, recognition of spirit and ancestry, and social, mental well-being. , physical and emotional of both the individual and the community. Indigenous Australians view ill health as the result of one of three causes: a natural physical cause, a spirit causing harm, or an illness due to witchcraft.
