A subcategory to include documents of medicines, medical systems, or health systems or health models specific to a people, community or country, which obey their own worldview or paradigm, and have their own medical doctrine, methods of diagnosis and treatment, which is associated with the sum total of knowledge, techniques and procedures based on the theories, beliefs and experiences of different cultures. Reference is made to the WHO definition of Traditional Medicines as the sum total of knowledge, skills and practices based on indigenous theories, beliefs and experiences of different cultures, explicable or not, used in the maintenance of health, as well as in the prevention, diagnosis, improvement or treatment of physical illness and mental illness. Traditional Medical Systems as a set of health practices, knowledge and beliefs based on peoples' ancestral experience, incorporating plant, animal and/or mineral based medicines, as well as spiritual therapies. Some of the best known systems include Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Thai Medicine, Traditional Unani Medicine and the Traditional Medicines of indigenous peoples, aboriginal peoples, etc. These medical systems are webs of ideas and practices related to the causes and cures of diseases, determined by socio-cultural aspects.
