Note d'application: | Ayurveda is the science of life (ayus: life, veda: science or knowledge) that constitutes the traditional medical system of India practiced for over four millennia. It is defined as a holistic science that considers the human being in its totality (body, mind, and spirit), approaching it from its bioenergetic principles of the three doshas (vata, pitta, and kapha), whose balance guarantees health and imbalance can induce the onset of diseases. (Glossary of Complementary Medicine Terms of the Social Health Insurance - ESSALUD, p. 22). Ayurveda is a traditional medical system of India with 3500 years of antiquity, encompassing physical, psychological, spiritual, and social dimensions of life, and the dynamic concepts of well-being, health promotion, and prevention and management of diseases. Ayurveda has its roots in two basic doctrines: the pañca-mahābhūta, which postulates that the entire physical universe combines the attributes of the five basic elements (space; gaseous state; heat; liquid state and solid state), and the tridoṣa doctrine, which postulates that there are three doṣas (vāta, pitta, kapha), which maintain functional balance in the body and evolve through the processes of life and simultaneously influence its course. Ayurveda uses bio-cleansing therapy, pacifying therapy, and preventive interventions. (World Health Organization. Benchmarks for the practice of Ayurveda [Internet].
