Scope note: Alfaglobulina que se halla en el plasma humano y de otros vertebrados. Se sintetiza aparentemente en el hígado y transporta la vitamina D y sus metabolitos a través de la circulación, mediando en la respuesta de los tejidos. A esta proteína tambien se la conoce como componente específico de grupo (GC). Se utilizan los subtipos Gc para determinar fenotipos específicos y las frecuencias génicas. Estos datos se emplean en la clasificación de grupos poblacionales, investigaciones de paternidad y en medicina forense.
