Scope note: Isla de las Indias Occidentales. Su capital es St. George's. Fue descubierta en 1498 por Colón, quien la llamó Concepción. Durante el siglo XVIII fue sometida en diferentes épocas por los franceses y los británicos. Los británicos sofocaron un levantamiento de los nativos en 1795. Fue un estado asociado de Gran Bretaña entre 1967 y 1974, pero en 1974 se convirtió en nación independiente dentro de la Mancomunidad Británica. El nombre original hacía referencia a la Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción, pero más tarde pasó a denominarse Granada en alusión al reino español del mismo nombre.
