Tienen una savia lechosa y una flor femenina que consta de un solo pistilo rodeado de numerosas flores masculinas, cada una con un estambre. Euphorbia hirta recibe a veces el nombre de algodoncillo, pero este nombre se usa habitualmente para ASCLEPIAS.
