Scope note: Especie anual de la familia ASTERACEA, género Parthenium, a la que a veces se hace referencia como matricaria, que no debe confundirse con la planta medicinal que a menudo se cultiva en el jardín, TANACETUM PARTHENIUM. Parthenium hysterophorus es una mala hierba alelopática invasora autóctona del Caribe, América Central y América del Sur que tiene estructuras en forma de roseta similares a las de la AMBROSÍA común. Contiene lactonas sesquiterpénicas como la partenina, que es venenosa para los animales que pastan, es alergénica e irritante y provoca dermatitis por Parthenium en los seres humanos.

Scope note: An annual species in the family ASTERACEA, genus Parthenium which sometimes is referred to as feverfew, not to be confused with the medicinal herb often cultivated in the garden, TANACETUM PARTHENIUM. Parthenium hysterophorus is an invasive allelopathic weed indigenous to the Caribbean, Central and South America and has similar rosette stage structures as COMMON RAGWEED. It contains sesquiterpene lactones including parthenin which is poisonous to grazing animals and allergenic and irritant, causing Parthenium dermatitis in humans. It is also a Homeopathic remedy. Abbrev.: "parth.". Plant origin. Original habitat: North and South Americas. Parts used: whole plant. Note: P.S.- There is pathogenetic study for this substance.
