Scope note: Especie de plantas de la familia PIPERACEAE. Se trata de una especie muy común de uso alimentario y medicamentoso, utilizada para incrementar la asimilación gastrointestinal de otros suplementos y drogas. Su principal componente es la piperina. La pimienta negra se tritura en verde y se almacena durante varios días para que fermente. La pimienta blanca es la fruta madura tras el descascarillado mediante maceración en agua.
