Scope note: Láseres de gas con dímeros excitados (excímeros) como medio activo. Los que más se usan son monohaluros gaseosos raros (fluoruro de argón, cloruro de xenón). Su longitud de onda de emisión principal se encuentra en el rango ultravioleta y depende del monohaluro usado (por ejemplo, 193 nm en el caso del fluoruro de argón, 308 nm con el cloruro de xenón). Estos láseres funcionan en modo pulsado y conmutado, y se utilizan en la descomposición fotoablativa que implica una auténtica extirpación del tejido. (UMDNS, 2005)

Their principal emission wavelengths are in the ultraviolet range and depend on the monohalide used (e.g., 193 nm for ArF, 308 nm for Xe Cl). These lasers are operated in pulsed and Q-switched modes and used in photoablative decomposition involving actual removal of tissue. (UMDNS, 2005)
