Scope note: Láseres que usan como medio activo un sólido, en lugar de un líquido o un gas. Los materiales que suelen emplearse son cristales, como YAG (granate de ITRIO y aluminio), alejandrita y CORINDÓN, primado con un elemento lantánido como NEODIMIO, HOLMIO o ERBIO. En ocasiones, la salida es modificada por la adición de materiales ópticos no lineales, como el cristal de fosfato de titanilo y potasio, que se usa, por ejemplo, en los láseres de neodimio-YAG para hacer que la luz de salida pase al rango visible.
