Scope note: Ligandos neutros o de carga negativa unidos a cationes metálicos o átomos neutros. El número de átomos del ligando a los que el centro metálico está directamente unido es el número de coordinación del catión metálico, y ese número es siempre mayor que la valencia o número de oxidación del metal. Un complejo de coordinación puede ser de carga negativa, neutra o positiva.

Scope note: Neutral or negatively charged ligands bonded to metal cations or neutral atoms. The number of ligand atoms to which the metal center is directly bonded is the metal cation's coordination number, and this number is always greater than the regular valence or oxidation number of the metal. A coordination complex can be negative, neutral, or positively charged.
