Scope note: Factor de transcripción "forkhead box" que es una diana importante de la señalización de la INSULINA y funciona como regulador de la homeostasis metabólica en respuesta al ESTRÉS OXIDATIVO. Se une al ELEMENTO DE RESPUESTA a la insulina (IRE) y al elemento relacionado de unión a la familia Daf-16 (DBE). La insulina suprime su actividad. Regula la proliferación de los OSTEOBLASTOS, la masa ósea y la regulación esquelética del metabolismo de la GLUCOSA. Promueve la GLUCONEOGÉNESIS en los HEPATOCITOS y regula la expresión génica en el TEJIDO ADIPOSO. También es un regulador importante de la MUERTE CELULAR. En el RABDOMIOSARCOMA puede hallarse aberraciones cromosómicas en el gen FOXO1.

Scope note: A forkhead box transcription factor that is a major target of INSULIN signaling and regulator of metabolic homeostasis in response to OXIDATIVE STRESS. It binds to the insulin RESPONSE ELEMENT (IRE) and the related Daf-16 family binding element (DBE). Its activity is suppressed by insulin and it also regulates OSTEOBLAST proliferation, controls bone mass, and skeletal regulation of GLUCOSE metabolism. It promotes GLUCONEOGENESIS in HEPATOCYTES and regulates gene expression in ADIPOSE TISSUE. It is also an important CELL DEATH regulator. Chromosomal aberrations involving the FOXO1 gene occur in RHABDOMYOSARCOMA.
